Fall Breakers: This Could Save Your Rats Life!

Due to rats having poor eyesight they often fall when climbing. We can prevent injuries by designing our cages in a way that falls are shorter and landings are softer.

Fall breakers is the term we use to describe an item that catches a rat if they fall within their cage. It is crucial to fill your cages. Not only do the rats love clutter and a busy cage but it is safer for them!

Consider the size of your rats when looking at how many fall breakers/how much clutter you may need.

Common fall breakers include:

  • Seagrass mats

  • Plastic garden fencing

  • Extra platforms

  • Wooden wine racks

  • Scarf Hangers (ensure there is no metal in the rings)

  • Hammocks

  • DIY projects

  • Anything that prevents large falls!
